Straw Bale Garden Part 6: Frost

The garden has slowed significantly over the past month, and we had to cover the plants with sheets a couple times, but we were still picking 1-2 quarts of almost ripe tomatoes a week and letting them ripen inside over night.

But, there is frost forecast for the next three nights.  It’s time to call it quits.  I went out this morning and picked all of our peppers.  The tray on the left is all from one plant.  It was a bit of an overachiever.  The other tray is from the remaining six plants.

And I picked about half of the unripe tomatoes before the baby required attention.  I might send the boys out with containers after school to get some more.  I don’t know how many of these will ripen, but it’s worth a try.
