Little Gnome Ornament

Little Gnome Ornament on Ravelry

Materials:

  1. Worsted weight yarn (Red Heart Super Saver or similar)
  2. G hook (4.0 mm)
  3. fiberfill type stuffing
  4. yarn needle, scissors, etc

Special Stitches

Arm bobble: in next st work (sc, 4dc,) remove hook from last dc, insert hook through the sc, pick up the dropped loop, pull through, ch 1

Bullion st (nose): wrap yarn around hook 6-7 times, insert hook through next st, yarn over, pull loop through, yarn over, pull through other 7 loops on hook

Gnome body and face (worked bottom to top)

  1. Working with clothing color, In a magic circle, sc 6 (6)
  2. 2sc in each st (12)
  3. (sc3, 2sc) three times (15)
  4. Sc in each st (15)
  5. Sc in each st (15)
  6. Sc in each st (15)
  7. Sc4, work an arm bobble, sc 6, work an arm bobble, sc 3 (13sc +2 arms with a ch1 on top)
  8. Sc3, (sc2tog in st before and after arm, skipping ch1), sc3, (sc2tog in st before and after arm, skipping ch1), sc3, switching to skin tone in last st (11)
  9. Working with skin tone, sc all in BLO (11)
  10. Sc6, work bullion st, sc 4 (10sc + nose)
  11. Sc all (11), sl st and end

Gnome hat (worked bottom to top)

  1. Working with white and leaving a tail, chain 22 and join into a circle
  2. Sc in every other chain, switching to hat color in the last st (11)
  3. Working with hat color, sc in every st (11)
  4. sc2tog, sc 9 (10)
  5. sc2tog, sc8 (9)
  6. sc2tog, sc7 (8)
  7. sc2tog, sc6 (7)
  8. sc2tog, sc5 (6)
  9. sc2tog, sc4, sl st and end (5)
  10. Join white and (sc, ch1) in each st, sl st and end, leaving a short tail
  11. Use the white tail to gather the 5 open sc together (hat bobble made)
  12. Use starting yarn tail to sew hat to head at an angle with front just above the nose and the back lower

Beard

  1. Leaving yarn tail, Ch5, turn
  2. Sc 3, turn
  3. Skip 1st st, sc2, turn
  4. Skip 1st st, sc, ch1, end, leaving another tail
  5. Sew beard to face just under the nose with sideburns going almost to the hat
  6. Hide yarn ends and add a hanging loop to the hat
  7. use the yarn needle or crochet hook to pull on the gently to pop it out a little
